1,800 HP & 3,200 HP Z-Drive Towboats

Towboats

The Shearer Group, Inc. was contracted by Marathon Petroleum to provide the design for a 3,200 HP and 1,800 HP diesel electric z-drive towboat. TSGI analyzed the engine operating profiles of their existing fleet over the course of a year of operations to develop an optimal propulsion system including diesel electric generators and “L” Drives. The 3,200 HP towboat will be powered by a twin z-drive utilizing 600Kw generators. The 1,800 HP towboat will also be powered by twin z-drives with a retractable pilothouse. Both vessels are currently under construction.
