The Shearer Group, Inc. was formed in 2010 when Gregory Beers, P.E. and Cory Wood of Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. purchased the assets of Shearer & Assoc., Inc. from Edward Shearer, P.E., President of Shearer & Assoc., Inc. A new corporate entity, The Shearer Group, Inc., was created to provide naval architecture, marine engineering, and marine surveying services to clients in the inland and offshore marine industries.

The “Shearer” name has long been associated with the inland marine industry, reflecting both Mr. Shearer’s contributions to naval architecture and his family’s multigenerational barge line. O. F. Shearer & Sons moved coal on the rivers from the 1920s until 1973, when it was purchased by one of its largest customers. Edward’s dad, Capt. Was widely known and respected on the rivers, and Ed spent much of his childhood working alongside him and learning the trade firsthand. Today, The Shearer Group, Inc. remains dedicated to serving vessels that operate on the inland waterways and continuing the tradition established by its namesake.

The Shearer Group, Inc. is proud to be one of the few naval architecture and marine engineering members of The American Waterways Operators, Inc. The company is also accredited by OSHA for Maritime Gear Certification, certified as an AWO-RCP Auditor, and provides technical consulting and marine surveying services across the broader marine industry.

The Shearer Group, Inc. brings together the strength of what Edward built over several decades at Shearer & Associates, Inc., along with the experience developed by Gregory and Cory through their work at Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. over the past twenty years. Edward Shearer, P.E., continues to serve as a Principal Naval Architect and remains actively involved in current design projects.
